I have a lot of very old 35mm negatives and slides that I would like to bring into the digital world. What is the best way to do this with the least amount of detail loss?
Is there any type of adapter that would allow me to use my digital camera?

Rightbrain,
Nice idea. In place of the copy stand, I'm wondering if I can use my tripod? I can point the camera straight down off the bottom of the vertical shaft. I'll have to give this a try and see if it will allow a full frame view with one of my lenses. Thinking about this even more, I can make a home made light box as well. If I come up with something that works I'll post some photos.
Thanks for the idea.

There is a video out there of a guy using the top of a lampshade, a piece of white paper, and some glass to make a DYI light box. If I remember right, he used his tripod and aimed the camera down with a macro lens to digitize his negatives.
I have a dedicated 35mm scanner and an Epson flatbed for my MF stuff. But, I have tried a similar thing with my alpha, and the results weren't too bad, Just not as good as my scanners.

I use an Epson 4990 Photo, works great for both 35mm and 120 film.

I thought I would add this update on digitizing my old slides and film, both 35mm and 2¼ formats from years past. I thought I would work on building a copy station, but then I saw the ad from Costco for a Wolverine 20meg pixel digitizer unit for $69. I placed an order right away. I'm glad I did, as they were sold out in about 3 hours of me placing my order. This unit comes with a 35mm slide and film carriers. The opening on the unit for the carrier will allow 2¼ format film to fit in without a carrier, but it also crops the edges causing you to loose part of the image. The Wolverine is self-supporting with a slot for an SD memory card. It is powered by an usb port allowing you to power it right from your laptop or use the included wall plug adaptor. I've put a little over 200 photos through it so far. I’ll ad some photos of the unit a little later. But here is one of my photos I digitized. This photo is me, back in 1970. Note the bulk film loader on the couch. I would buy 100 foot rolls of 35mm black and white film and color slide film. I would do all my own processing. Ok, once you stop laughing, I was a real photography nerd, in fact I'm just a mature one now. Most everyone back then had LOTs of hair and the pork-chop side burns. I'll be adding a thread with some of my old time photos just for the fun of it. This months assignment theme being Retro, I'll add some true retro for thought starters. I did a fashion shoot back then and I'll ad photos from that. Just be prepared to do a LOT of laughing.
