I've been using Flickr forever. It does an OK job and sharing from it is pretty easy. The social aspect is limited, but good. I like the ability to organize photos by sets and collections, as well as tag photos.
On the down side, Yahoo! seems less than interested in really improving it. The interface has been essentially unchanged since I began using it several years ago. Other sites, like 500px.com, have gorgeous interfaces, though I haven't really spent any time with them.
I've said all that to ask this question: which online source do you use to store/share your photos? What do you like/not like about it? Finally, should I look at moving my photos over to another site or leave them on Flickr?

I store and share mine from my own smugmug website that I can design to look as I wish. I can get direct html links to individual photos (in as many different preset sizes as i like), individual gallery and collection links, create slideshows with direct links, and have the ability to set them all to private if i dont want the public to view certain galleries or individusl photos. It also has "right click" protection, watermarking, and a shopping cart for customer purchases. They do have a nice community of photographers with different groups you can join... A social media of sorts but it's pretty much just photographers so I don't use it. I do not like G+ just for that reason. It's just a bunch of photographers patting other photographers on the back lol. That's all I really saw anyway.
All I really use to "share" photos is FB and a few specialized forums. I'm not really sure that I'll open up a Flickr acct since I have my own customizable and shareable website but their group setup looks pretty cool. There seems to be quite a few unique camera specific groups, film gphotography groups and michigan landscape photography groups out there that would fit me well.... I just don't know if I have the time or energy to get involved in anything other than my own FB, another FB group page that i administer, and this forum. These are already just "get to when I have time to breathe" parts of my week.

I too have been thinking of changing to something other than Flickr. In my humble opinion, these are the pros and cons of Flickr.
Pros Easy to use and to share photos Easy edit of sets and photo information Exif data (though they have recently change the format) Allows uploading just about any size file Good control over who can see the photos Lots of interesting groups to explore
Cons Login is a pain if not configured from a Yahoo account (I used Google) The social network is far behind time to others. For me, I find that tags and photo location information sometimes gets lost
All in all I'll keep flickr but might change if I find something better. I would like to be brave and get my own domain name and use something like smugmug, but I don't know that much about HTML and fear I would have issues getting a good look.
I'm interested to hear from others and if anyone finds something better out there too.

I use Flickr, Facebook, 500px, Pinterest, Redbubble and Fine Art America, and any other social media outlet for the "exposure factor". (I do have a google page but I found that one to be entirely useless) I want to get a smug mug/zenfolio account because those seem like the best 2 options for online sales. Currently, because I'm an IT Guy, I have been running servers and websites for years and that is where I am most familiar, I have my own domains and use Wordpress for my blog and Zenphoto for my galleries. Both are real clean and quick and I have full control over everything, which I like. That being said, the ecommerce portions leave a lot to be desired. They work, but nothing seems to be too fluid. One of these days if I start making enough from my photos I'll get a smug mug/zenfolio account but until then I'm working pretty good hosing my own stuff.

Eric, I knew absolutely nothing about HTML when I started my smugmug site and i didnt use their templates. I found more than enough online content on how to create my own page w/HTML-CSS just using the google search. There are so many pages out there with examples of what specific codes to use for specific desired results. These smug/zen folio types have great customer service techs to help you if you get stuck on something. It doesn't take them long to get back to you. It was a little bit of a learning curve but nothing you can't figure out on your own. It's easier than it sounds. Like i said, I knew absolutely nothing about HTML, not 1cent when I started. It's not that bad. If I can do it, you can do it. This coming from a guy who has never owned a digi camera besides a camera phone.

picturesocial.com is a more "social network style" photo platform. I dabbled with it about a year ago. It seems like people are more interested in commenting on photos then just dumping them and then complaining when no one is leaving any feedback. I lost touch with it because I've gotten too busy with the group.

Karl, thanks for the words of encouragement. This might be something for me to tackle next year. I'm going to be overloaded here soon. I have a number of family and friends staying with us this Holiday Season from Australia. I most likely won't have much time for the computer then, but will once they head back. My wife and I are thinking of even starting to put the Christmas decorations up early. ;D

You can always post questions here in the "off-topic" section. There are a few IT guys on here who could help you with some things I'm sure. And I'm always willing to help! Right now Mr. Digital is working me like a 9 year old in a Taiwanese Sweatshop ;-) trying to figure some things out but once I'm done with that I can help.

I have never bothered with Flickr. I post on Tumblr and on my own website, plus have galleries on Model Mayhem and Model Insider. I have some stuff on 500px and should probably update it…a few things on Facebook, I post here and there on Photocamel as well.
