I haven't had much compatibility issues. The only problems so far are:
1. Games for Windows Live - Ironically, Microsoft's own terrible game overlay software that is required by some games had problems and took some tweaking to get it to work. Maybe they updated it since then.
2. Unsigned/Untrusted drivers - Some obscure drivers that are unsigned or untrusted will not install. 7 will allow an override, but 8 doesn't seem to, unless if that's an option somewhere. It might be, as I haven't looked too much into it.
3. A program called Xfire, used by some PC gamers for tracking games and chatting, caused problems with the Start Screen. It's possible other apps that use Direct-X overlays may have similar problems, although I haven't observed that with apps like Steam or Orgin.
