Go with the Diana (IMHO). If that unique look is what you want and it's under your max budget, go for it. What more can you ask for....? The other cameras wont gove you that look.... And it sure beats doing it the fake way with a digi and PS.

Thanks for all your help! I think I'm going to look around a little more and do more research. There is a lot to consider.

A Diana vs an SLR really depends on what kind of look you are going for.
On the SLR route, I suppose if there is any advantage to getting an SLR with a lens system that is no longer used (ie. manual focus Canon cameras and Minolta cameras) you can usually find the lenses for super cheap. Including some really good ones.
Also, not to get off topic, but can people make their images in their signatures smaller? The large pictures in the signatures take up a lot of screen real estate, especially since they are in every post. I scroll this thread and it seems all I see are pictures of the old woman and fatcatimages.

I am thinking I want to get the most bang for my buck. So, I think I want to try a Canon film camera. They seem to be a good price, and I like that I can change out the lenses. This will help me to slow down and really appreciate each shot. Too bad the body of the camera isn't as cute as the Diana. :-)

I think a film 35mm SLR camera is a good place to start. And if using color negative C-41 film you can have that developed pretty much anywhere...

Ha! This whole time I thought the type of look was the priority.... You won't get that look from a canon.
